The company is maintaining certain standards. Thus, you may find the registration process a little difficult.

You need to have a lot of patience during the registration process because it may take some time.

Babbletype values the services it provides to its clients, so such standards and arduous signup processes are completely understandable.

You will also have to go through extensive examinations and pass them.

The test would normally take you about three hours to finish. Yup, you heard that right—three hours long!

The purpose of such examination is to test your level of skill in spelling, grammar, punctuations, etc.

Needless to say that fluency in the English language is a huge advantage.

There are other freelance platforms that aren’t as strict as they are but legitimate nonetheless.

Or you may want to consider popular freelance platforms like Fiverr.com, UpWork.com, or People Per Hour.

In case you are qualified and passed the initial evaluation, Babbletype sends you a notification through email.

When you start working, it’s also important to note the necessary devices that include a reliable laptop or desktop, fast internet connection, and noise-canceling headphones or regular headphones.

You can choose whichever headphones you would want to use. As long as you’re comfortable and it gives you clear audio sounds, then it’s all good.

But I recommend the noise-canceling ones because it helps me concentrate more with my work.

How does Babbletype work?

As you may have already surmised, Babbletype basically requires you to do the following if you are qualified, and as soon as you have passed the test:

• Transcriptions – your main duty is to listen to audio or video files and transcribed them.
• Translations – your main duty is also to listen to video or audio files and translate them into a specific language.
• Proofreading – your responsibility as a proofreader is to reread transcribed and translated files. And then to correct any errors if there are any. This is for better accuracy that ensures the quality of work before being submitted to their clients.

But you have to take note that the most basic skillset that you’ll need in this type of work is speed and accuracy.

After completing the task, you earn rates depending on the task completed.

How much rate you earn also relies on the level of difficulty of the project.

The summary of the rates are as follows—

Transcriptions

• The basic transcription jobs range from $0.40 to $0.60 per audio minute, which depends on the nature of the work.
• The transcriptionist earns $0.45 per audio minute for the usual verbatim recordings.

Translations 

• If the requirement is to translate the file from Spanish or Portuguese to English, then the translator shall earn $1.30 per audio minute.
• Other languages to English translation earn you $1.40 per audio minute.
• Translation into Excel-type transcripts would earn the translator $1.60. This applies to all languages.
• Lastly, the translator earns $0.15 for the quality review of translations.

According to them, the Spanish and Portuguese translation is at a lower rate because they say that it is a common language.

What this means is that the competition has lowered the pricing of the translation.

Proofreading

• If you’re proofreading English files, then it would earn you $0.13.
• But if the files are in other languages, then it is priced at $0.18.

The payment process

I forgot to mention earlier that one of the basic requirements is a PayPal account.

So if you don’t have one, then you can create an account through their website. It’s basically easy and won’t take much of your time.

Babbletype transfers your income through PayPal once a week.

Is babbletype a reliable source of income?

I think earning significant income as a transcriber is possible.

But before you can achieve such status, you have to pass the company’s evaluations.

Also, a beginner may find it hard to cope at first.

Well, everything might seem difficult in the beginning, but it gets a little bit easier as you gain more experience.

But if you don’t have the patience to do this type of job, then transcribing may not be for you.

Another factor to consider is the frequency of invitations. Clients may not come as often as you might expect it.

This is especially true if you’re a newbie because you might have to compete with seasoned transcriptionists.

Again, you don’t have to concern yourself about it.

But not being accredited by the BBB and no ratings may affect the decision-making of a potential member or even clients.

I did not find any reason to believe that Babbletype is a scam.

If you’re considering this platform as a source of income, then you don’t have to worry about anything else because they are a hundred percent legitimate.

What I observed is that some may be led to believe that they are a scam because of the high standard the company is maintaining.

Specific standards are the company’s rights, and after all, quality results are what they’re aiming at, right?

If you’re looking for a bigger source of income, then Babbletype is not for you. Patience and perseverance are a requirement if you want to earn big in this type of business.
