What is 3Play Media?

3Play Media is a business that provides transcription services.

It was incepted in 2007 and currently headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts.

Its founders, namely Josh Miller, CJ Johnson, Chris Antunes, and Jeremy Barron, are all graduates of MIT.

Their main purpose in establishing the business is to provide affordable video files to the public.

Their desire has led them to come up with a unique idea in which they’ll use transcriptions and captions.

Now that they are 13 years in existence, they have gained the trust of more than 2,500 companies.

The companies they serve are in fields of government, entertainment, educational institutions, media outlets, etc.

Some of the notable companies include Time Warner Cable, Yale University, Procter and Gamble, Autodesk, University of Wisconsin, and their Alma Matter—MIT.

How does it work?

The company name 3Play Media comes from their business process that involves the following—

  • The initial step utilizes automatic speech recognition.
  • The editing and cleaning up the transcription.
  • Quality review.

The second and third step requires human intervention, which you and I come in.

Effective video files are one way to attract potential clients or enrollees (in the case of educational systems).

And one way to do so is to enhance user experience.

Video transcriptions and captions are especially useful for—

  • An individual that is within an environment that’s sensitive to sound.
  • People with impaired hearing.
  • People who are visual learners. These are people who are more adept at learning through visual stimulation.

The transcription and captions not only makes the video files more user-friendly if you will, but they also improve status in search engines.

In this case, the clients of 3Play benefit through the improvement of their video marketing strategies.

Registration and Qualifications

As you may have surmised, your main job is transcribing and captions.

On their registration page, you’ll be greeted by their virtual assistant—Bo. He is a virtual dog that’s ever ready to help you with your application.

Here Is My Best Work At Home Recommendation For Newbies!

Jobs in Boston or Transcript Editors

Jobs in Boston

This option is pretty much self-explanatory. It is a list of job offerings for people residing within the vicinity of Boston.

Some of the jobs you’ll typically find includes IT Engineers, Account Executives, Business Development Representatives, etc.

3Play Media offers competitive salaries and benefits such as 401K, Vacation Pays, Sick Leaves with Pay, Health Insurance, Disability Insurance, Life Insurance, and free company snacks.

You’ll get these benefits from 3Play only if you’re residing in Boston.

But don’t worry if you’re not from Boston, you can apply for the following position if you want to work for 3Play Media.

Transcript Editor Jobs

Unlike jobs offered only in Boston, 3Play Media is continuously hiring transcript editors.

However, it’s likely that you’re no longer transcribing from audio, but editing the files that were already transcribed.

If you choose this option, you have to select which language you’re working with—whether it’s Spanish or English.

Take note, however, that this option is only available for individuals residing in the United States.

Yes, 3Play is not available globally.

Also, Transcript Editors are contractual jobs. For people residing in Boston, they have the opportunity to become permanently retain their jobs.

As a transcript editor, your responsibility is to look over into the finished video files that were transcribed earlier.

You will proofread them and scan for any errors that include words, punctuation marks, and formatting.

But before you can begin working, you need to pass a series of tests.

Once you pass the test, you’ll be happy to see several job offerings on your dashboard. You can select any of them, and there are no specific guidelines as to which project you are going to work on.

Is it a reliable source of income?

It is absolutely reliable for people living in Boston. This is because what they offer once considered is already a regular job that also provides regular employee benefits.

For those living outside of Boston, I still believe that it is reliable for a moment.

The positions are contract-based, so you may have to search for other jobs once your contract expires.

You can earn in the range of $10 to $30, which may depend on typing speed and difficulty of the project.

With this being said—if you are able to finish a project earlier than expected, then the Transcript Editor shall earn higher compensations.

But you also have to bear in mind that your quality of work is being evaluated.

If you are not diligent with your work and let’s say that you continually make errors, then it may affect your work with 3Play in general.

Lastly, you have to take note that the gigs or projects aren’t consistent. You may have to wait for hours to land a gig.

Thus, it may be a decent part-time job only for Transcript Editors.

So it would be better for you to prepare if you can.

Shortage of job offerings

Due to the number of Transcription Editor, there will be times that projects are hard to come by.
