Have you heard of Amazon? Like who hasn’t, right?

There’s no doubt that Amazon is the most popular online merchant worldwide.

They offer foods, hobbies, appliances, sports gear, etc.

Anything that you need and want is in their store.

It was founded on July 05, 1994, by Jeff Bezos—he is the richest man in the world! He is also the first person that worth and reached the $200 billion plateau.

With the success of Amazon in the past decades, you should never go wrong in investing in their affiliate program.

In this review, I’ll be talking about how the affiliate program of Amazon works and whether it is a reliable source of income.

So without further delays, let’s begin my Amazon Affiliate Program review…

What is the Amazon Affiliate Program?

The affiliate program of Amazon started in July 1996.

It’s still pretty much the same procedure up until today—Amazon associates use affiliate links or banners and attached them to their websites.

And once someone uses the link or clicks on the banner, they will be redirected to Amazon’s online portal.

And the Amazon affiliate earns commissions if they end up buying the items.

Amazon is not the first company to use an affiliate program. During that time, there’s AutoWeb.com, BrainPlay.com, and EPage.com, to name a few.

But in 1997, they sent an application to patent the components of an affiliate program. And in February of 200, the company announced that it was granted full exclusive rights to the said program.

So these are only the basics of the things you need to know regarding the Amazon Affiliate Program.

The platform is a great way to make money online.

Of course, becoming successful in this type of setting has its own share challenges.

It is not as easy as it may sound. You need to formulate a strategy that would help you achieve financial freedom online.

The registration process

Registration is pretty simple and straightforward—just a good old fashioned online registration.

However, you need to meet specific requirements and policies you have to agree on before you can qualify to become an Amazon Affiliate.

Now, let’s take a look at first the affiliate policies you have to bear in minds—

• Never make any deceptive or misleading claims when you promote the brands on your online sites.
• You may have to disclose information that you would be earning as a result of promoting the brand.
• In case of offline, don’t use the Amazon affiliate links in such instances.
• Don’t mention prices because they may vary in certain instances.
• Never use programs that shorten affiliate links.

In this section, I’ll discuss how you can become an Amazon Associate. These are the basic notes to keep in mind before joining:

Create an online site

First and foremost, you need to create an online presence to become an Amazon associate. This includes a website, YouTube channel, or application.

It is also recommended that you fill your site with contents beforehand to prove to Amazon and your visitor that your website is active.

Take note that you must be able to relay the purpose of the online site during the application process.

Therefore, prepare and be clear on your target market, goals, and strategy on how you’re going to bring in traffic.

After you’ve created your website and preloaded its contents, then you may now begin the registration process.

First, Search for the button that says “SIGN UP” and click it.

The application process will go through the following steps—

• Account Information – enter basic personal information like name, address, email address, etc.
• Website and Mobile App List – you just have to key in your website, YouTube channel, or mobile application link.
• Profile – this part of the registration involves many processes. One of the most important sections includes creating your Store ID and an explanation of how you’re driving traffic into your website.
• Proof of identification – for this part, you have to input your mobile number and wait for their call. And then, you will be asked to input a four-digit code. After this, your account will be approved.
• Choose the payment method – I will explain this in the following sections.

To some, it may seem to be overwhelming to look at. It might be time-consuming but straightforward nonetheless.

How does the Amazon Affiliate Program work?

Once you have your website, you need to strategically place the affiliate link(s) on specific content.

Yes, you can put multiple affiliate links in one content!

You normally see this setup for websites that review and list the top products in the market.

Some of the typical websites that you may find are those engaged in technology, sports, or hobbies.

Like for example—best smartwatches, top boxing brands, best smartphones, etc.

So, where do you get the affiliate link? I’ll explain it shortly.

How to create Amazon affiliate links?

Creating a unique Amazon affiliate link is relatively simple. Just follow these simple guidelines—

Step 1

After signing in, click “Product Linking.”

Step 2

And then, select “Product Link.”

Step 3

Type the product name you’re looking for.

Step 4

After choosing the brand, you want to promote, click “Get Link.”

Step 5

From there, you can choose three types of affiliate links—

• Text only – this is if you want to highlight the description only.
• Image only – this is if you want to highlight the image only.
• Text and image – it is the combination of both.

How much is your potential income?

The commission rate of Amazon Affiliate ranges from 2% up to 10%. It varies depending on the product category you’re promoting.

The commission rate offered by Amazon is not as high as other high paying affiliate programs, but it is competitive nonetheless.

Let’s take for example the PC category—

• Amazon Associate – 2.5%
• Microsoft – 1%
• Tiger Direct – 3%

Or the furniture category—

• Amazon Associate – 8%
• Designer Living – 12%
• Best Buy – 7%
• Wayfair – 7%

The only downside of Amazon Associate, however, is that the cookie duration is only 24 hours.

Is Amazon Affiliate Program a reliable source of income?

Despite having a low commission rate I still think that Amazon Associates is a great Affiliate Program especially for beginners because it's easy to use and they have tons of products that you can promote.

However, you need to bear in mind that it is not a “Get Quick Rich” scheme.

Any guru’s that tells you that it is so is not being truthful with their claims.

It may take a few months or even years before the affiliate marketer earns enough money to call it reliable and significant.

Affiliate Marketing is not just creating a website and putting in affiliate links.

You also have to consider careful planning on your website that involves how you can effectively market your website and attract a lot of traffic.

It doesn’t happen overnight. Don’t rush the process—through hard work and perseverance; you will eventually get the fruits of your labor.

It is challenging, I know. But fortunately for you, I know something that can help you progress faster.
